Muqarrib

Privacy policy

Last updated: 24 September 2026

This policy explains what information the Muqarrib Android app (com.muqarrib.app) collects, why it collects it, who can see it, and how you can control or delete it.

Who we are

Muqarrib is developed and published by Md. Shahidul Islam, who is responsible for the information described here. The app carries no ads and no subscriptions.

Using the app without an account

You can use Muqarrib as a guest. In guest mode everything you record stays on your device and nothing is sent to us, apart from the anonymous usage statistics described below.

Information you give us

When you create an account we collect:

  • Your name, username and email address, and a password. The password is handled by Firebase Authentication and we never see it. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account.
  • Profile details you choose to enter: phone number, country, date of birth, age and gender. Age and gender are used to adapt the features and actions shown to you.
  • Whether the account is a parent or a child account.

Information you record in the app

When you are signed in and data sync is on, what you record is synced to your account so it is there on any device you sign in on:

  • Salah records, amaal, sadaqah entries and targets, tasbeeh counts, tracker goals and memorized portions.
  • Qur'an bookmarks, notes, plans, activity logs, hifz test results and task progress.
  • Dua bookmarks and bookmark categories.
  • Your hasanah count, score points, achievements and challenges.
  • Families you create or join: the family name, its members, tasks, challenges, completions and rewards.

Turning off sync

You can stop syncing at any time with the “Sync data to cloud” switch in Settings → Data & privacy. While it is off, the app sends nothing you record to our servers and downloads nothing from them, for any account on the device, and everything keeps working with the data on your device. Signing in still reads your account profile, because signing in needs it.

Turning sync off does not delete what is already on our servers; to remove that, use Delete data, described on the account deletion page. Changes you made just before turning it off may still be uploaded if they were waiting for a connection. Turning sync back on syncs your account and your child accounts again, including what you recorded while it was off.

Information that stays on your device

  • Location: to calculate prayer times and the qibla direction, the app asks for your device location, or you can choose a country and district by hand. The coordinates and place name are stored only on your device and are never sent to us.
  • Microphone: recitation detection and the spoken hifz test listen to your recitation. The audio is processed by an AI model on your device; it is not recorded, stored or uploaded.
  • Profile photo: the photo you choose stays on your device and is not uploaded.
  • Your settings, and the translations, tafsir, recitations and mus'haf pages you download.

Usage statistics

The app includes Firebase Analytics, a Google service that automatically collects usage information such as app opens, screens viewed, device model, Android version, app version and approximate region, tied to a random app-instance identifier. We use it only to understand how the app is used and to improve it. We do not use it for advertising, and the app does not collect your advertising ID.

How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in.
  • To sync your records across your devices.
  • To run the family features: showing members, tasks, challenges and the rank list to the people in your family, and letting parents manage their children's accounts.
  • To adapt the features to your age and gender.
  • To understand how the app is used and fix problems.

Who can see your information

We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.

  • Other Muqarrib users: the profile details in your account can be read by other signed-in users, so that they can find you and invite you to a family. Members of a family you belong to can see its tasks, challenges, progress and scores.
  • Parents: a parent linked to a child account can see and manage that child's records.
  • Google: we use Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Firebase Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to store and process information on our behalf. Google's own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy. Signing in with Google is also subject to Google's own terms.
  • Authorities or others, when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect the safety of our users or others, or to investigate fraud or abuse.

Where your information is processed

Firebase stores and processes information on Google's servers, which may be in a country other than yours, including the United States. Google handles this information under its Firebase data processing terms.

Content the app downloads

Qur'an text, translations, tafsir, recitations, mus'haf pages and the recitation detection model are downloaded from public sources such as tarteel.ai, everyayah.com, qurancdn.com, quran.com and GitHub. These downloads send no personal information beyond what any web request carries, such as your IP address.

Security

All information is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Data on your device is protected by Android's app sandbox, and data in your account is protected by sign-in and Firebase security rules. No way of storing or sending information is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Backups and logs you share

If you export a backup, the file is saved wherever you choose and stays under your control. If you share an app log, it goes only to the person or app you pick in the Android share sheet.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information until you delete it. You can delete everything synced to your account at any time from Settings → Data & privacy → Delete data, and delete your whole account, sign-in included, with Delete account in the same place, as described on the account deletion page. Usage statistics are kept by Google Analytics for its retention period and then deleted automatically. Copies in our service providers' routine backups may remain for a limited time until they are overwritten.

Children

A child account can only be created by a parent, from within the parent's own account, and is managed by that parent. A parent can ask us at any time to see or delete their child's information. A parent who deletes their own data from our servers in the app also deletes the data of every child account they manage. Parents are responsible for the information they enter about their children. If you believe a child has an account without a parent's permission, contact us and we will review it and delete it where appropriate.

Your choices

  • Use the app as a guest, without an account.
  • Refuse the location or microphone permission; you can choose your location by hand instead.
  • Edit your profile in the app.
  • Turn off data sync, so that what you record stays on your device.
  • Export your data from Settings.
  • Delete your data from our servers, from your device, or both, in Settings → Data & privacy → Delete data.
  • Ask us for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Delete your whole account in Settings → Data & privacy → Delete account, or by emailing us, as described on the account deletion page.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
